Traditional wooden boatbuilding has a romantic image, but we are very aware of the potential environmental impact of our work. Whenever we can, we use hand-tools and elbow grease, and recycle the plastics we inevitably use as part of the building process. This isn’t always possible (due to contamination) but we try to keep use to a minimum.

Our wood/forest products are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which means they come from well-managed forests and/or recycled materials. We have also recently “reclaimed” a large stock of teak which was used a century ago to build a hospital floor, and now makes stunning decking. There are inevitably a lot of off-cuts from boatbuilding, and these we turn into bowls and chopping boards. We love trees, and recognise their importance to all our lives. We certainly don’t take any part of them for granted.
